Clutch choices
I have a 97 camaro z28 with the lt1 and t56. Car has long tubes, lower control arms, panhard bar, subframe connectors, and 100 shot of nitrous using a nozzle system.
I recently took the car to the track and got a best time of 12.87 @ 107 mph on motor and 12.41 @ 113.8 on the 100 shot. I only sprayed it on my last pass of the night and the clutch slipped every shift. I am on a budget right now as I am trying to save up for a 9 inch rear. I have been looking at competition clutches as they are good priced and have good reviews my question is which stage do you think would suit my needs the best?
Sorry for the long post just wanted to give as much info as possible. Thanks for any help!

If you need a STRONG clutch, (rated to 700hp) get the ZOOM twin sided kevlar clutch.....I just had one put in for my 383 because a bad RMS leaked oil all over and destroyed my RAM clutch It's not too heavy but grips like a ************! Expect a little clutch chatter on takeoff, but it's not bad with 4.10's.

As long as you break it in right the Zoom Kevlar clutch is a great choice. I was going 11.10's on it N/A with great drivability. Just make sure you take the time to break it in properly. Another option is call American Powertrain thet can custom build you a clutch for your needs at a very competitive price. Great support also.

Nice times on boltons, do you have a tune? Whats your race weight? What was the DA? Submit your timeslip here, looks like your 17th fastest on these forums.

No tune yet. Not 100 percent positive on the race weight I weighed it a couple weeks ago and it was 3270 without driver and with half tank of gas. Now the setup is changed a bit since I scored some drag lites and put all the suspension stuff on after I weighed it. I will load up my slips and videos tomorrow as I'm at work right now. Thanks for the info guys and keep it coming!

My competition stage 4 held well to bolt ons and a little spray. But as soon as I got my 9in and 28x11.5 et drags on there hitting the 150 out of the hole, it didnt hold for ****. Getting a twin disc once the new motor is in...

I didn't think Monster made LT1 clutches?
I think it was like 6-800 miles of stop and go traffic, no hard acceleration or using the engine to slow the car. Just several days of city style stop and go driving. I guess the kevlar wears much slower so it requires a long break in time and is prione to glaze pretty easy durrig that period. Once it's glazed it's done. Also you have to be very clean durrig the install a little grease on the disc, flywheel, or PP won't burn off like on other clutches the kevlar absorbs and holds it. Once it's broken in they last a very long time, have a great coefficent of friction, and can handle heat extremly well. Several delivery trucks (Fed Ex/ UPS) style use kevlar clutches for their stregnth and longevity, plus they don't wear the flywheel. Most people can't install or break them in right and then blame the clutch when it starts slipping, as is the case with most clutch failures. After 3+ years of beating on mine the disc shows hardly and wear. I used my greasy *** hands to take it out and don't want to put it back in.
I went with an American Powertrain Ceramic this time because I don't have time for proper kevlar break in. So far I like it, dual ceramic sprung hub, marcel wafer disc. No chattering like I had with a Ram Powergrip HD and the disc is american made. I considered Competition Clutch but they said they didn't offer a clutch rated to handle my car other than their unspruing hub puck style. Not a street friendly design.

rather than starting a new thread i will ask here.
i need a clutch for 700hp. i was looking at the competition clutch stage 5. It's a sprung 6 puck and when i called them they said its rated to hold 750tq.
I was also looking at the zoom dual kevlar clutch but i can't find a hp/tq rating for that one. I can't find any real reviews on either clutch either.
anyone got an opinon on either of these clutches?
It will be in a street car so i want somthing that wont break my teeth in traffic but i do understand there will be some chatter in a single disk. My current clutch is a competition clutch stage 4 and it chatters so im some what used to it.
And i don' wana hear get a mcleod twin disk cause there WAY to expensive.

The Zoom kevlar one is rated at 700hp.....JEGS website description of it has changed in the past couple weeks It used to show the HP rating....that is why there is "HP700" in the part# (HP70043-1).
I like it, it's not that heavy, but you just have to let it out quickly and not slip it nearly as much as a stock or organic type clutch. Mine has about 200 miles on it now....I will say it does not like reverse lol...lots of chatter, hopefully it will go away after break in or I'll just have to deal with it.

What kind of power are you making?
im going to be right at 650 at the crank and i want to make sure it will hold. Anyone have any long term experience with the zoom clutch making over 500 at the wheels?
