Default Ls6 heads question

Ok. So I just got some ls6 heads that I'm putting on my 1999 ls1.

1. Will ls6 heads bump compression without milling?

2. Will I need to do anything to my pistons?

3. I heard there is a gasket I can use to bump compression? If not what gasket should I run.

Iv read a lot. But any more info would be a great help. Thanks!

Over stock LS1 heads? Yes

2. Will I need to do anything to my pistons?
No, as long as you don't over due cam

3. I heard there is a gasket I can use to bump compression? If not what gasket should I run.

Yes, if you run a thinner head gasket. Thickness is up to you, but thiner is not better.

you want about a .035 quench when choosing a head gasket.

So would you guys recommend milling them alittle? Or just throw them on as is.

I want to run a 125 shot also.

Not trying to slam you, but with your knowledge of the ls1 i would not mill the heads. Slap them on with a set of new springs and run them.

I wouldn't be milling them myself of course.

But the cam size is 232/236 .595/.602 114lsa

1. Yes, 243 heads will bump up CR

2. I'm running a similar cam and did nothing to my pistons

3. Cometic .041 gaskets are thinnner than the stock GM MLS gaskets. But, honestly the GM gaskets seal better. You could probably get away with a .010" mill if you wanted. That's what I did to mine just to clean 'em up.

i am running the ls6 stage 2.5 from texas speed milled .025, with stock pistons and stock gm head gaskets. had plenty of piston to valve clearance even with a pretty large cam 231/239 .617 .623 car runs great, sounds great even on a base tune! it hits the dyno tom morn for final tuning. just make sure you account for pre- load when measuring for your push rods!

check the valve seats for any leaks,do a valve job if you find a leak..006 is about equal to 1 cc.valve to piston clearance mostly depends on valve timing events.if you have the cam card list all the valve info ,intake opening etc.

When we mill our cylinder heads, we usually perform a valvejob as well, thus recessing the valve and gaining back PTV clearance.
