Default Speedometer not working after disconnecting battery?

I have a 00 Z28 M6

I discounted my battery to clean my MAF but after I reconnected the battery, the speedometer is pinned all the way to the right and doesn't move at all. I even smacked the cluster a couple times but it still didn't work. I didn't touch anything besides the MAF.

I have a Scangauage II and the speed still registers so I assume it's not a sensor problem. Any input?

Thanks

You can take the gauge out and rotate the assy and let gravity do its thing.

The last two times this happened to me, it simply corrected itself when I got on the FWY at WOT.

Just had the exact same problem. Disconnected battery to swap out the alternator; hooked it all back up and the speedo needle is pinned all the way to the right.

Spent 45 minutes searching for an answer and this thread was perfect! Bump to keep this up there for anyone else that runs into the same issue.

I just had a very similar problem on my car.

The power steering fluid leaked heavily onto the alternator and ruined the alternator. After replacing the alternator (and a new battery), the 2000 Z28 speedometer was stuck at maximum.

To fix the stuck speedometer, I simply went "Wide Open Throttle" (WOT) for a while and the speedometer suddenly correct itself.

Thanks for this post!
