Ported 317s with a custom grind cam will make 500 rwhp if the exhaust supports it. There is no off the shelf cam for a carbed 408.

With that many cubes I would run a set of L92 cylinder heads. That many cubic inches would love the larger runner of those heads. Eric L

Would surely take advantage of the ability to have ls3 heads and use velocity compared to smaller engines.

I agree. And, with 400" motor you could run an off the shelf cam. The bigger motor will do fine with a 112LSA cam. I would pick a mid 230s @ .050" on the intake and mid 240s @ .050" on the exhaust. It will be a beast.

Depends on what piston your running? And what compression your running. Large lift cams with tight intake centerlines require flycutting/valve relief pistons. Eric L

Wiseco pistons somewhere around 9.5:1 -23cc. Lunati crank cam and valve train. And I've about decided to go up to 4.125 bore.
