Default Prc .650 dual valve spring life?

Not really sure on the recommended life on my prc dual valve springs. Running a tsp v3 cam and coming up on the 20,000 mile mark since the install. I've heard many things when it comes to the life of these springs. I've heard 20,000 miles change them. I've heard 40,000 miles change them........ Any ideas?

Funny you bring these up I just put these in my car and I have heard alot of mixed things on them too.... An outside source also told me these springs have been breaking lately. Not sure on what to beleive anymore lol. Kinda pisses me off cuz I paid extra for these to have the extra protection of the double spring. Maybe TSP can chime in and let us know how many miles these are good for and if there have been breakages lately?

You don't have to either change or keep the springs based on fixed mileage numbers. Pull a few of them and either check them or have them checked by a local shop.

Yes I agree to check them pretty frequently, but the rumor about these springs breaking recently is true or no?

FWIW- The PRC .675 EHT double springs that came with my new PRC heads lasted 7,000 miles before they started breaking used with the torquer V3 cam. An outside source told me per the time I purchased my PRC heads and v3 cam (March 2011) that I probably received a "bad" set of springs due to manufacturing. When I told a rep. at Texas Speed this he didn't exactly disagree either. He had told me since I bought my heads in March of 2011, the PRC .675 EHT double springs have been "revised" and offered me a new set of these revised springs for a very nice discounted price. Excellent on Texas Speed's part

Yah I understand that there is no recommended mileage change due to the fact that everyone drives different and has a different cam setup. Mine is a daily driver with the ocational weekend race. I too think I have the old style springs probably so I guess maybe I do need to change them out. I don't feel like checking them every other week just to make sure they're ok haha. Anyother dual spring manufacturers out there with some proven longevity behind them?

I think your style of your lobes will play into spring life... i.e LSL vs LSK. There is no real set lifespan. take a few springs out, closely examine them, test PSI @ installed height and open psi. If your not sure then take a few to your machinist and have him check them out

Darkman is correct, no fixed mileage on springs. Lifespan will just depend on what camshaft you are running, and many other variables. Springs dont know mileage, however they do know heat cycles, how many times they have been compressed, and what kind of abuse they have been through. Using common sense and good judgement should give you a good idea when to check, only the driver and spring knows what kind of abuse it has been through. When in doubt, it doesnt take much to pull some and have them checked out.

You guys already answered. When it was said to check springs it means to remove them, physically inspect them and then pressure test them. If they are still within tolerances, then reinstall, if not, change all set.
There is no actual "spring is good for xxxxx miles"

Even if there was that is not the issue here. All springs break eventually, that is why one has to maintain and test tem regularly.

There is no rash of broken springs. Of course if you spend all day on the forums you hear every horror story of a broken spring....what would the forums be like if every time a set of spring ran flawlessly for 15-25K miles the owner made a thread? Install the springs and enjoy your car!

Im talking about spring fauilers do to faulty parts. I understand springs will break but when your on a low lift cam, everything is set up correctly and the spring breaks with less than 10k miles than there is a problem with the spring.

My PRC .650 duals lasted 50k miles before I pulled them. Had them pressure tested/checked by a machine shop and they were still within spec. My guess is that I probably could have went another 50k miles on them. The cam I was using was a MS3 .608lift for 3 years and currently a custom cam for the past 4years with a .598lift.

That is impressive. good to hear they are lasting that long. i haven't pressure tested mine yet but i have been visually inspecting mine through 20000 miles. still look good. i figured id pull one and get it tested to be sure.

That is awesome. Hearing things like that makes me feel like a made the perfect decision in springs. Also don't think I could have bought from a better company. Every time I called no matter who I talked to thy were always willing to answer the questions I had. Very good business for sure
