can you properly tune a motor without it being in a car?
i would like to do some work to a L92 motor (cam, intake, headers) i have which will be hooked up to a 6l80e..It will be running a E38 ecu. My question is can i bring the motor to a dyno shop to have it tuned? or would it be better to bring my complete buggy with me with the drive train installed? I ask cause i wonder if the trans would make a difference or not?

I would think so, as my son just installed a 572 crate engine which came with a dyno sheet which show 697 hp ( chp) we just installed into a nova and went to track with out us doing any tuneing and stright off the trailer ran 10.1 ET/ 131 MPH
just do a google search for a shop with a engine dyno
Good luck, Johnny

The engine can be tuned on an engine dyno - the fuel and spark tables are determined by RPM and load - it doesn't care if it is in the car or on a load cell (dyno) - If you hold the load and optimize the fuel and spark to make the most torque/power in each area of the fuel/spark tables, it is tuned - whether in the car or on a dyno...
That said, you will have to find a place that has the capability and know-how to tune an EFI engine (with that PCM) on an engine dyno... that will be the harder part...

i would have it broken in and tuned on a engine dyno if your able to your tune will be done and a decent break-in. plus if there are any issues it will be much easier to break the motor down if need be hopfully not but you never know and then once its in the car its done
