View Full Version : GXP Transmission?

I just bought my 06 GXP and i have the complete service records on it. With the exception of the heads up display, PS pump, rear spoiler, and some other B.S. items over the last 6 years, nothing really has gone wrong. At 100,000 miles, it looks like it has 50,000 miles.

It did however have a new transmission put in at just under 60,000 miles, then either serviced or replaced again at 61,000 miles. So i bought the car due to the fact that the main problem these cars have, had already been fixed.

My question is:

After driving it for 1 week now, I notice smooth shifts while in regular auto. From the normal upshifts under normal driving, to the harder shifts and downshifts when driving in a more spirited fashion.

When I swith over to manual, i notice smooth shifts while running through the gears, and when slowing down, it seems to slip a bit going into 1st.

Next...say i am in neutral...I put it in drive and it seems to slam into gear harder than an auto should. And going from reverse to drive seems to rock the car harder than it should.

What i am asking is what is the common sign i should look for when the tranny is going again? What i am seeing....is this normal? SHould I be concerned? SHould I save some money for a rebuild?

FInally...is there a fix for these glass transmissions so if it were to go, what should I do to prevent this from happening anytime soon?

Thanks everyone for reading and helping.

Call Dave at triple edge performance and he will tell you exactly What you need for how you drive. But its usually a sonnax relief valve, newer valve body and different tcc.

Thanks! Yeah when I saw the GXP, I just had to have it. It matched the GTO perfectly. Now to get rid of the damn front plate. I dont need it here in AZ but it looks like it is rivited into the bumper. Any ideas? :-)

The front bumper is a pain in the ass to get off...
Looks like you will have to go in through the bottom..
The bottom plastic portion can come off in 15 minutes or so..

i didnt think it was that bad to pull off at all. just a hand full of bolt, then a bunch of those push plastic pin... <-- having the tool for those makes like very easy, best 8 dollars i've spent lol

While on the subject of bumper removal, does the bumper have to come off to remove the headlights?

Headlights are held in by one bolt each. Just unscrew that, pull the pin up, and they pull right out.
