So I was driving on the highway, and this new mustang 5.0 starts tail gating me, so i put my car in to 3rd (its auto), then he gets next to me and revs his car so i lower my window and tell him 3 honks at a 65 roll. So we race and my car puts about a bumper on him. Suddenly like at 120 my car starts shaking or vibrating bad felt almost like a flat tire. I stop at a nearby gas station check it out and theirs smoke coming out of the tail of my car it also smelled like burnt. The weird thing is that i tried moving it forward like 20 feet and it drove with out making any odd noises. So I just called a tow truck to pick up and take it home...

Their was some fluid on the bottom of the rear where the cover is ...

What do you guys think gave out my rear or transmission?

Could be an axle bearing. Had that experience once. Have to pull the cover to see bud. Sorry.

could it have been the posi unit?

Once you pull that cover, you will know. If you see fluid on the bottom it hay have slowly leaked out and at that speed cooked what little oil was left.
