Hey everyone I need some advice. My diff is whining and my car just hit 120k, luckily I have an auto so its a big softer on it..

Anyways, I know 2 people locally who are selling stock 10 bolts.
1 of them is from an auto with 50k miles, the other 1 is from a manual with 41k miles.

I know if I switched to the manual I would have to get a tune for the shift points since it has different gears. What would u guys recommend? --- both of them are $100, ill save for a 12 bolt for right now I would just like a low mileage rear on there

Any suggestions?

Shift points shouldn't change much (when switching to the m6 unit) unless you have a 2.73 rear end now. What gears does the auto 10 bolt have?

I personally would run the M6 10 bolt. 3.42 gears with a 4000 stall would yield you some nice 1.5 60's, and probably still last a significant amount of time. We had a guy out here with 3.73s and a 4000 stall that would pull a tire and ran that rear for years.

No I believe I have the 3.23s.. Whatever the 99 WS6 had.
That's true, the higher gears and a nice stall could definitely help me with track times!

I don't know that every "ws6" had 3.23s. The difference would change whether you need to adjust shift points in the computer. 3.23 to 3.42 you'll be fine, 2.73 to 3.42 will act goofy without tuning. Also, I've taken apart a bunch of ten bolts, and every ten bolt out of an M6 regardless of miles had a scored inner race on the carrier bearing on the drivers side. All the auto rears were perfect. Food for thought.

A4 does bring up a good point. The difference between 3.23s and 3.42s will be minor with a good stall. Either way I think you will be fine with whatever choice you go with. Personally I think the 10 bolt is stronger than a lot of people give them credit for. I know a lot of M6 cars that only street race (kinda buffers the shock) and put anywhere from 4-600hp thru them and have lasted for years. They do make noise and stuff, but still hold together.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go ahead and just buy the Auto 10 bolt.
Simply so I don't need to get a tune, just swap them and have them go.

How much do you think it would cost normally to get that done?

every ws6 came with 3.23's just like the SS's all did. so it wouldnt be a big difference but even with that said I would still go with the m6 rear to get the 3.42 gear ratio.
