Default Electrical

The last problem I need is an electrical problem. Those are the worst for me.

Car: 2001 Z28, LS1, Bolt-ons, untuned, 58xxx Miles on it.

Problem: Driving home last night, I turned on my brights, and the electrical system shorted and went dead (all lights, engine, everything). It came back and died 3-5 times in a matter of seconds, before it went completely dead. I opened the hood, and jiggled the battery, and the car came back to life. But it started at a very low idle (400rpms). Then driving it 5 more feet it did it again. I checked the battery connections and they were on tight, however, the car came back on, and I was able to drive it home.

Where should I begin to look?

check the main grounds coming right off the battery first to make sure it has a good connection.
