The book at the damn parts store says i should use a certain filter, but the one that actually fits is a L12222 from purolator. weird. was my pan changed? ls6 or something odd like that?

There are several filters that will fit your vehicle. I use a 2000 silverado 2500 with a 6.0 as this is the longest filter they can look up. They updated all filters across the board n made them shorter and came out with different part numbers. Some they updated in their book some in their computers... buy like I said several different part numbers will fit.

Kinda like SBC use to have 10 plus that would fit depending on application... now the books only have two... so you have to go and search thru all the filters to find what works. Even so there are only a few options when there use to be many.

I agree there are several that will fit. The trucks are much longer and the cars are short. If the threads are the same and it is the same diameter it should work.

I wouldnt use an oil filter that sits below the pan, specially in an F/Y body - thats just asking for trouble.

I agree with above post. I use a purolator gold filter it's part # L14026 I do believe. I'll double check when I get home.
