Lightbulb Gas Price Revolt Method=easy Plan

Just a suggestion. I recieved this via email today. Its worth a shot!

THIS WOULD BE SO EASY TO DO= PLS. JOIN US IN THE REVOLT!!!!

Subject: Join the resistance! I hear we are going to hit close to
$3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need
to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered
this good
idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain
day" campaign that was going
around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that
because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing
to buy gas.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for
them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that
can really
work. Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably
thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is
currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned
us to think that the cost! of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75,
we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace....not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not
purchasing their gas!
And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all
rely on our
cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on
gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline
from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and
MOBIL. If they
are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to
follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions
of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't
whimp out on me at this point...keep
reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send
it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message
reaches the
sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE
MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and ! pass this on
to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If
it goes
one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION
PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have
to do is send this to 10 people... Well, let's face it, you just aren't
a mathematician.
But I am ... so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out
to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people
could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you
didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together
we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this
message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT
UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM
DOWN. THIS
CAN REALLY WORK.

I remember this exact same email going around about 3 years ago when prices were hitting $2 a gallon. If memory serves correct, I don't remember the revolt working too well. It seems the prices pretty much stayed high like that all summer. OPEC!

I don;t think it will work because a lot of the smaller gasoline companies actually buy their gas from the big companies like exxon

Easy enough, I buy my gas at a Sunoco where I work. It would be cool to see the Mobil across the street empty.

That's exactly right. Just because you don't go to an Exxon station doesn't mean you aren't buying Exxon gas.

If you really want to reduce demand for gas, park you car and ride a bicycle. Do yourself a favor, and delete chain emails.

there is a guy on the local news that has a 5 minute "bitch session" about some of the stupid things that people do/let happen to them. He cover the rising cost of fuel and metioned that everyone do this same thing. It does make sense, however; it wont work. we are to dependant on fuel as a coutry to just stop purchasing from any particular supplier.

I hate to say it, but gas prices are going to continue to go through the roof until the US finally says "enough is enough" and throws some form of sactioning on OPEC and other oil producing nations. Then OPEC says "fine screw you guys, you dont get any". Next thing you know things get ugly. OPEC has us by the ***** and thier isnt much we can do about it.

I stay in touch with a buddy that lives in Venezuela and they produce thier own oil there from oil rigs out in the ocean. He can fill his tank with 93+ octane fuel for under the equivelent of 10.00 USD. Just goes to show you how bad we are taking it in tail pipe from our arab, oil producing brothers.

The intentions are good, but nothing will faze this market. And it appears that not many of us care how high pices go. We are filling her up more than ever and large truck sales are still peaking.

Todays outlook, which is grim:

I have changed my economics.

Less trips, stay home more, go to stores and restaurants closer to home, canceled newspaper subscription, go out to eat only twice a month, and use 6th gear much sooner.

I hate this ****

uh. MAKE MORE MONEY. Thats the easiest solution. Screw gas, if its a problem, you shouldn't drive a muscle car, they make hybrids and diesel's for tree huggers.

if i gotta hussle parts on ebay to deal with the higher gas prices then so be it, everyone has a hussle. This is hilarious to see people complain about gas prices on a performance GM LS1 forum.

heh.

truly hilarious. want me to remap your ecu to 85 octane?

Making more money is not an option for everyone. Those with fixed salary jobs are screwed (like me) and our only way to cope is to cut back elsewhere.

Also, high fuel prices dont' just hurt you at the pump. Every single commodity is affected because goods have to be moved.

Movement = Fuel consumption.

But, most of us are NOT complaining...

"But the data also showed that motor gasoline demand over the last four weeks has averaged 4.3 percent more than a year ago -- this despite record high prices at the pump, according to Todd Hultman, president of Dailyfutures.com, a commodity research provider."

E85 won't work. Not enough land to grow enough corn to displace gasoline. Besides, it's still 15% gasoline.

right vertical pedal is what costs you money, think about how you drive and how many cents it will cost to floor it every time and perhaps you'll save that dough lol.

i get 10mpg (city) and fill up every 2 weeks, its 1.90/gallon for bp 93 and 14 gallons is where i consider myself empty, so i feel ya. 14*(1.90) for 140 miles kinda sucks.

actually american farmers slash and burn millions of tons of food and are paid to do it by the government to keep the price of food down....
now if we told them hey instead of growing that slash and burn crop how bout growing nothing but corn then i think you would see a big dent in the gas market...

and if 100% of the ppl used fuel that was only 15% gas....
then opec loses 85% of the market

Um... not buying from 2 biggest companies. What a great idea... wait, I rarely buy at Mobil anyhow, 'cause they are usually ~5% more expensive than some others.. ...that means, by the way, that people who buy Mobil don't care about gas prices anyway.

But anyhow - let's assume it works. Mobil slashes the prices. The thing I'm missing is how it would affect other companies. If you switch back to Mobil, then it can immediately bring the prices back up - after all, it still needs to make profit. If you don't - other companies have even less incentive to slash their prices...

i fill up every 2 days.. average 19-20 mpg. 120miles/day just to work & back.

Still not enough. Also, the energy balance of corn ethanol is at best only slightly positive, many experts think it's negative. Ethanol is more expensive, around $2.50/gge (gasoline gallon equivalent), and would be even more expensive w/o the direct subsidy it receives. Now if they ever perfect an efficient way to convert biomass into ethanol, we might have something.

Wheew... I thought my E85 dream went down the toilet. I thought it was a good idea. Of course, the last time I thought about E85 was back in college, and I had just laid the bong down after a couple of hits. But when I was sober, I still thought it was a good idea and wrote a research paper. I didn't figure on what 72sub suggested though.

EDIT: Damn! I just read 72sub's second post...I think he's right. My "research paper" didn't focus on the economic aspects of the fuel.
Oh well, I guess we'll continue to **** off the Greenpeace, Sierra Club types
P.S. Brown eyed baby seal fur is better than microfibre cloths.
