Default First Autox in my Trans Am

I've been autocrossing for about 6-7 years, from my brothers 96 Civic and then my own 02 RSX Type S. I just bought this Firebird 3 weeks ago. I only got my 3rd and 4th runs on video.

My Description on the videos:
First autocross for the Trans am after purchasing it 3 weeks ago.

1998 Firebird Trans Am
BMR Front Strut Bar
BMR Subframe Connectors
SLP Loudmouth Cat-Back Exhaust
LS1 Motorsports Intake Lid
Hurst Shift Kit

I was running in ESP for this event due to the subframe connectors that are welded in. Running economy, stock size tires. As you can see I was either understeering or oversteering, there was no happy median.

North West Ohio Region
Sports Car Club of America
9/16/2012
Toledo Express Airport
Not to flatter myself but I think I handled RWD quite well, I didn't spin out! I can probably credit that to all the racing I do on videogames. I think it was well worth trying the car out on these crappy a$$ tires, I mean they are bad, the previous owner said they probably have 15K miles on them and the tread on them looks like full depth! Just pointing out how hard these tires were and how little they wanted to grip.

Thanks for looking.

Cool pics. I've done a few events now. I just picked up a set of sticky tires/wheels last night - Nitto 05's.

I've run the past two events on older, pirelli street tires on stock wheels. It was like driving on ice.

From my brief experience in auto-x...tires are the single, most important mod.

Best of luck in auto-x. BTW...Sam Strano is a good reference

Very cool. This is motivating me to give AutoX a try in my basically stock 00' z28.

a stock z28 is great. You be able to stay in the stock/lower classes. My mods put me into a very competitive class with experience drivers who crush me.

Again, tires are the most important mod you can do for auto-x. Be careful what tires you pick, as they will determine which class you fall into.

The best mods you can begin with are seat time, seat time, seat time, and more seat time Learning on street tires actually helps as learning on race tires will just mask your mistakes.

I agree...i'm still in the novice stage. Every event I learn something. I try to ride along with the experienced racers and have them ride with me, too.
