Default Driving a trans am through the winter?

Currently I have a 99 trans am thats really nice only 52,000 miles just mild bolt ons, and a 97 gmc sierra z-71 with 204,000 miles. Obviously Im gonna drive the truck in the winter but I love the trans am soo much Im tempted to sell the truck and buy another trans am and drive that one in the winter. I have winter rims and tires from my grand prix I used to have and was wondering how many of you guys rock them in the winter. Im definitely storing my current one in the winter but I found this one close to me and was wondering what you guys think. Maybe I just like these cars too much.

Agreed. You can drive them but they're not fun in the snow.

If you're up north, truck.

I drive my Firebird year round but the snow here is usually 3" tops.

Default Possible but...

I live in the Seattle area where we can get the occasional light snow every year. Since they do not use salt on the roads here (can't hurt the salmon now, can we) it makes for a fun time between icy slick roads and folks from countries that have never driven on snow.

I am using Bridgestone Potenza tires which are rated for light snow and are really good year round . For the most part, I have been able to get when caught in a pinch using these but on days with snow projections or snow on the ground, I stick to a 4x4 Explorer. And heaven help you trying to get up one of the snow covered icy hills.

Now that having been said, I used to live in Boston and had a friend with a set of "winter tire/rims" that had Blizzaks. He managed to get by in hilly Arlington in 4-6" snow just fine - he just tossed 100 lbs of steel plate in the trunk for added weight.

I will most likely stick with the truck but there are some decent deals out there on trans ams and Im kinda tempted to go with cash and make some lowball offers and see what happens lol. I used to have a grand prix gxp with snow tires and that was amazing in the snow but I guess that was also fwd and higher. I drove it over my truck in the winter cause I didnt have to slow down. And disciple your friend had a trans am I take it?

I daily mine, and overall it's not too bad. Considering the Columbus area had all of about 3" of snow last year, it did extremely well, on regular Kuhmo Ecsta ASX all seasons. I drove it a little in Cleveland during a snowstorm, and with some sand bags in the back it handled fine, and even without traction control it was useable without my usual lead foot. If you want a second TA, go for it I'd say, if not stay with the truck. For being the very powerful, RWD car that the TA is, it's not a bad winter car. (from my experience)

Where are you from? I'm right in the middle of that area. Wish I saw that a few weeks ago!

I had a 99, I didn't even like driving it in the rain, much less the snow.
