Auto Shipping
Anyone know a trustworthy shipping company for autos? I am looking at shipping a car from GA to TX and not sure the do's and dont's of this. This will be the first time purchasing a car without ever seeing it.
All advice is welcome!

I just went throught this shipping from Austin to North Dallas. I went through a broker that has great reviews/scores on transportreviews.com. At the end of it all, I have a claim open with the carrier's insurance company because he backed his trailer into my rear bumper.
Does the car run?
Have you been to transportreviews.com?
I am assuming that you are unable to fly out to GA ande drive the car back. Am I correct?

For those who aren't familiar with the shipping process, beware:
Most brokers, like those you will encounter on sites like UShip, will bid the job low, at rates lower than the trucker will actually haul it for, just to get your business and get you committed. They make you think you are getting a great deal, but your car either never gets picked up or they call you back and shake you down for more money once a lot of time has passed and you are desperate.
UShip is just one of the havens for these scoundrels.

Google ground force one out of pa. I used them for years and their prices are very competitive. Not a broker either, tell them Mario from Houston referred you. I don't have # on me which is why I suggested google.

DAS, Discount Auto Shipping. Had my truck shipped from Az to Tx for around $1200 I think, if your not in a hurry. They usually wait until they get a couple going in the same direction. Good luck, L8R DFLASH

All these shipping companies seem so shady. I ask about a paying when I get confirmation when the car is going to be picked up and they say "well it will take 10-15 days to pick up". No way I am waiting this long. haha

It's nice to see members willing to help each others and making the pick up a road trip is definitely cool, but you might want to look at the costs, though.
Depending where in GA the car is, I'm assuming it's going to be at least a 1000 mile round trip. How much fuel is the truck going to use? What's the mpg loaded? 12-13? Unloaded w/trailer in tow? 16-17? At around four bucks a gallon, it all adds up pretty quickly.
Saves the hassle of dealing with shipping brokers and companies, though. That's for sure.
1200 bucks from AZ to TX??? Damn!!! I can ship a car halfway across the world for that price.

Don't misunderstand; brokers aren't all bad. Some are honest and will shoot you straight, but many are very shady. Just be aware that the broker likely has no idea when your car will be picked up. It's really up to the drivers who are in your pickup area and whether or not they want to haul your car for what you are paying; versus picking up another local car that's waiting and paying more.
Your best bet is probably to use a broker, but inform yourself of the process and keep them honest. Without a broker, it's hard to get your job exposed to the truckers (or on the "board," as they call it).
