Re-work my harness
I'm pulling everything this weekend if weather permits out of the 02 camaro
Ls1/t56 and putting into the 68 camaro.
Question I have is (I probably asked already) but can I jut get the harness in the 02 camaro and have it re worked?
I don't have a harness at all in the 68 camaro.
I have a 12 circuit universal that I can install for from HOTROd wires.
If I got the rework done to factory harness will it be hard to tie in to 12 circuit harness??
Just curious to what my options are and if there is any threads on this .

You can save some bux by reworking your 2002 harness. If it is a really nice
car I recommend a new harness. Just depends on if you have the skills and time to work your original harness. Just because it is old does not mean it is junk. There are plenty of vendors but some don't use gm color coded wires so in the future it may be a pita to troubleshoot.
I had a guy bring me a 57 Chevy that was drive by wire and the pedal did not work. His harness was wired wrong, it had a drive by cable only PCM (lacked the drive ic for dbw). Plus nothing was gm color coded, royal pit. The commercial company was from Arkansas.
Another national company had wires in the wrong connector holes and another two harnesses had bad crimp connections so the wires fell out and made horrible intermittent connections. So just because it is new does not make it good.

The 02 harness is pretty easy to convert to a stand alone harness and should be easy to inter grade with you new universal body harness.
You can either strip out everything not needed and add the required wires (battry power, sign battery, fans, fuel, relays, etc) or you can intergrade via the Cxxx connector. IMO, strip every thing out, it makes a cleaner engine bay.
Suggest you research in the FAQ on the pin out and wiring harness.
If you want to pay or buy one, check the sponsor or internet, but many on the forum use Speartech or PSI.
But do you're research by reading some of the projects threads or the FAQ's

I had a fellow on here do mine his profile name is Chrome_Rust. He did a good job for me and he kept in contact with me. I haven't talked to him since all u could do is shoot him a pm.

I redid a 99 harness. It sounds complicated but it is almost stand alone as is. I pulled it completely apart and re routed all the sensors/connectors I would need and took the others out. I took the rear 02s out EGR and a few senders. Once that was done all that was left was FP, Fans, Ignition/switched 12V and constant 12V. The grounds were left alone and just grounded to the back of one head.I also used a 4l60E in my swap and the PCM will control it too..Bonus

One of the things that turned me away from having someone do it for me was the number of swaps I have seen where people end up having to diagnose a harness that was made for them by someone else. At this point I know more about my harness than I care to acknowledge.

Doing a harness is pretty easy honestly. It does have some benefits because you learn where wires goes and what they do, and down falls because, well, its a lot of work. Here is a picture of mine, tailored to a Painless 18 curcuit harness, added 5 feet to the plugs so I can put the PCM under the front seat.
And I learned more than I wanted to when I bought my eng/trans from a wrecking yard. Being new to these back then I thought I was getting a 00 LS1/trans and PCM/harness, but after gettign it home and figuring everything out I had a 00 eng/trans, a 98 PCM and a 01 harness for a manual trans, talk about a learning curve.

I did mine on the car. Just take it one wire at a time. Cut, route, solder, heat shrink, repeat. Take lots of notes for future repairs - you won't remember where that solder joint is in 5 years when it cracks.
Take it one wire at a time and its simple. If you look at the whole job at once if will feel very difficult.
