Default Head gasket bore diameter?

It seems a little bit too close to the edge...a 3.910 headgasket bore on an engine with a 3.905 cylinder bore. Anyone ever do this? is it ok? It's only .005 total and .0025 away from being in the cylinder. Some have told me yes, it's ok, some question it. MLS by the way, not composite.

What heads? That is close, but should work...I like the gasket to be a little bigger than that

It works well! We sell a lot of the Cometic 3.910" gaskets for our 347's and 383 assemblies with 3.903-3.905" bore!

It depends upon how large of a chamfer has been cut at the top of the bore, I have seen plenty that needed to go to a larger bore size on the gasket due to this.

I always go by the rule of thumb of .030 larger than the cylinder bore. Of course it also depends on the chamber radius as well.

I like it. With Cometic quality, that will work fine and it's actually ideal in terms of cylinder fill contamination. The crevice created by a larger gasket allows spent gases to "hide" in the chamber, contaminating the next fill. Not a big horsepower loss but effects emissions. If you do get your vehicle checked, you gasket choice might work in your favor if you're on the border.

Been running the 3.910 Cometic gaskets in that size bore for many years now without any problems. Go for it.
