Default 96 camaro lt1 to ls1 swap

My friend just recently totaled his car, he spun 360 across 5 lanes I have no idea how it happened. He said hit and run but of course I don't really believe him. Anyway, he told me I could have whatever I wanted for $700 bucks. That means the ls1 with about 100,000 miles the k-member the brakes, the suspension the wiring harness the starter the motor mounts etc etc, the works. I searched a little and people keep saying to build the lt1 but I can get everything I need here for $700 and just do the swap my self. What do you guys think about the wiring that will need to be done to get the ls1 wiring harness to work with a lt1 dash? Also I can take his transmission too if need be, would an ls1 work with an lt1 4l60e? He also has a 4l60e but I am not sure about the difference between the lt1 and ls1 transmissions.

For 700 bucks...do it. Get everything, transmission too. Wiring isnt that difficult. Do a search for lt1 > LS1, there must be at least 10 of these threads going on right now.

Do you know anything about what needs to be done to the lt1 tranny crossmember to get the ls transmission to fit? I read somewhere that it needs to move back 1.5" or something like that?

Why not just take the crossmember from the donor car?

The LS cross member won't bolt into a lt car. Usually you can oblong ye hole or weld an extension onto yours. I switched to a manual lt crossmember and weld on a small tab. I would switch the Trans as well because you have to buy spacers to make the lt Trans work. You will need ye cross member and rack as well. Plus get the steering shaft.

The LT1 shaft will work BUT it has a weak rag joint that also hits the headers sometimes. The LS shaft is thinner because it does not have a rag joint at all.
