My dad has a 1996 Tahoe and it's coming up on high mileage and running rough (250,000) and he was interested in switching to a newer 2005 model 5300 Vortec as he has a wrecked donor vehicle.

His question is will the engine bolt up to the transmission? because they both have the 4L60E, but I know they're not all EXACTLY the same as you can't bolt an LS1 up to the V6 4L60E

You'll need the 12563532 spacer. Some aftermarket flexplates use a dual pattern that will fit either the old or new style converter holes (such as the PRW 1834610). You'll also need 6 longer flexplate bolts (19257940). I think 1 bolt on the bell housing doesnt line up, the rest will.

Gen I / II V8 and all 90 degree V6 transmissions are the same. With the spacer Orange ss spoke about, they will work.

What you need to worry about more than bolting up the transmission is will the PCM control the transmission properly. If the front pump has PWM cast on it, the answer is yes. In your situation, a 1996 should have the proper transmission.

This should be an easy swap since the frame stayed the same when the engine changed so factory mounts will put you in the proper place. Your wiring will lay out neatly and the fuel lines and such can all be pirated from the donor with no modification.

You don't have to use a GM spacer its cheaper to uses a Hughes Bushing/spacer. Read the link in my sig.

^^Agreed. Hughes is way cheaper, and easier. I used it in my Sonoma, with the stock 4.3/4L60E tranny, works mint
