I have a built 383 that is consuming an alarmingly larger amount of oil. Probably around 1qt/1k There are no ostensible external leaks, and there is oil stains on the bumper from the exhaust. It doesn't always smoke at idle; although, it does occasionally. It does, however, smoke under WOT.
I plan to do a compression test whenever I have the time, but what else can I do, especially if the compression tests fine?

I've pulled some of my plugs, and none of them were oil stained. I emptied the catch can, and there was a tiny amount. My PCV setup is routed fine, as far as I know. This may be a stupid question, but how do I check crankcase pressure?

So, I have good compression in all eight cylinders. Two adjacent plugs had a significant amount of oil residue. Now, I'm assuming that the valve seals are above those two cylinders, or my PCV system is inadequate.
