Default Spare wheel front runners

I'm extremely cheap first off. Can I use two spare 16" steel wheels as front runners? Aside from them being heavier than aluminum counterparts, what would be a down side?

I'd love to, but I have free access to a few 15" LT1 ones and sure I can get 16" ones for next to nothing as well. I'm trying to spend as little cash as possible. Lol

besides the safety of the wheels not being designed for high speed use, as they are designed for low speed Temporary use, most tracks, if they are strick on rules, will not allow you to run a spare tire wheel as a front runner, because of the first reason.

That's more of an answer I was looking for. Thank you.

Agreed. Most tracks will laugh you right back out of the gates if you try to pull some **** like that, and second, most spares are pretty heavy, probably not much benefit to them over your stockers honesty.

The wheels themselves look to be very sturdy and heavy. I think the only issue would be the temporary tire mounted to it. With a good skinny front runner tire I would think it would be ok. Of course I could be wrong about the structural strength of the mini spare rim.

That's what I've come to realize after I posted this. I took the spare out and it's d*mn heavy. The next thought is having my stockers cut down to 4" wide, I just have to find somewhere in Chicagoland to do it for a decent price.
