Default 5.3 swap rev limiter???

I put a 5.3 into a 81 Malibu mated to a th400 trans. I used lt1swaps harness info.

my question is, the car only revs to 3000 rpm (if my tach is right) the pcm is a 99 truck and I had a local Guy delete the stuff I didn't need.

BTW no codes are stored

is there any thing I should I should look first I'm lost....thanks

I would take it to the nearest good LS tuner and let them sort it out.

I don't know what "lt1swaps" info stats but the LS motors with the different firing order tachs are set to a 4cyl to read the actual RPM's. Does it sound like 3000rpms?

Sounds like the tuner didn't change the tach output to V8, instead of 4 cylinder.

I gave you actual help. It just wasn't what you wanted to hear.
You say this guy actually "changed all the stuff", yet you also say you've "done everything in house." Now unless he lives with you, you should consider taking my advice, as I believe it was good advice in the first place.

Let's review after I re-state that advice... Take it to a GOOD tuner.
It could have been fixed by now. imho

Sorry i should ad that it sounds like 3000 rpm also the vss pig tail isnt hooked up. Do you think the computer thinks its in neutral or drive?

Porkilllsx no disrespect man but your good advice is the obvious answer.... I took my pcm to a local guy but he could have came to me. Close enough.

Btw nice 3rd gen...did you swap it yourself, buy it done,or pay someone to do it?

Every late-model GM car I've been in rev limits at 3-4k in park or neutral.

Does it rev up to 3k quickly then sound like it bouncing off the 3k limit or does it just rev up to 3k slowly sound like it bogs/settles there?

What's your fuel pressure? It may possible meeting a fuel cut where enough fuel isn't being supplied to power past 3k.

A programmed rev limiter will allow normal acceleration, but will cut fuel and/or ignition at the limit point, which will make it sound like is bouncing off the limit value. I hope that makes sense, I can't think of how else to word it. Lol

I did what I could with it but paid a local expert to build and install the LS1, transmission and suspension. There was no sense in risking it not getting done right considering the size of the investment. Plus I didn't want to screw things up so bad that nobody could have sorted it out. Thanks.

There are no rev limiters at 3,000 rpm in a stock 99 truck tune... even if the VSS is failed or P/N... You need to get it logged and see what RPM the PCM says when it hits the limiter and/or pull the tune and find out what is in there.

Fuel pressure should be good bosch 044, -08 feed, regulator after rail at 60lbs.
At 3000 it sounds like its hitting a rev limiter.not bogging there.

My local guy believes its needs the vss signal.

Prokill i would have had someone do mine but i was more than capable of doing it my self. And when things go wrong, ill know how to fix it. Because i built it....well...everything but the trans.

sounds like the factory 6000 rpm limiter is active with the standard tach output showing "3000rpm"

Blue Knight, did you actually check the fuel pressure or are you assuming it is 60PSI. Just a good place to start. If fuel pressure is wrong, everything becomes wrong. Just something to confirm is good.

Unless someone changed it to 3,000 rpm, it isn't the rev limiter with failed VSS... It may be the tach as stated a couple times. If you have someone local, have them log it and see what rpm the PCM is showing when it hits the limiter - that will tell you if it is your tach... Also, get them to pull the tune out and see where all of the limiters are set to. Other than doing those two things, you are pissing in the wind...
