Question Help with a Friends Car

I got a buddy with 99 TA (auto), 178k on the stock 5.7 with a few basic bolt-ons i.e.

SLP Lid
MSD Wires
LS6 Intake
Longtubes w/ory and Loudmouth 1 exhaust
3.73 Gears
and a Tune from someone in MO

His car is a DD and all I really know is that he wants to outrun the SC Cobras. My question is, would a good H/C setup with a converter do the trick or does he need to go another route?
I'm not really sure how he feels about throwin some spray to it but I'll ask.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

A good heads/cam package and the appropriate stall and he will be eating terminator Cobras alive! (Stock/bolt on ones at least)...I ran against a terminator with an aftermarket kenne belle and he beat me with an 11.9 and thought he was bad *** lol...I'm going back next year with a converter and puttin him in his place!

What H/C are you running?
Would it be better do spend the bank on the LS1 or save up for a Swap?

I'd be careful. 178K is quite a few miles to do a H/C/I swap - especially if he is going to be beating on it pretty hard after. I would strongly suggest refreshing the motor before doing your internal mods or you'll more than likely spin a bearing aftwards.

That's what I was thinkin.
So it would be in his best interest to go ahead and look for a decent 6.0?

We agree with the previous poster that you should consider rebuilding the engine with that type of mileage. I would have him do a compression check on the engine to see if a rebuild is going to be required before looking into those bolt-ons. Another plus to doing a refresh- your friend could increase compression and durability with forged pistons. When picking out the heads, cam and stall you want to think about the whole picture so the airflow characteristics compliment the stall and remain street friendly.
