04 GTO

Are the radio controls for my steering wheel supposed to light up when the lights are on?

^Correct

It was something only offered in 06, you can get them for yours but involves some wiring to be done.

I converted my 05 to 06 controls. But the 04 is not as easy to do.

Why is more involved with the 04's? I thought it was a simple change of the clockspring and VOILA! ...?

Wow, I forgot how many little things had changed between 04-06 especially and totally forgot about the lighted steering wheel controls (and lack of door lock button on center console on the '04)...Not something I'd change out, but good to know (remember now)

Apparently, the 2005's can use the 2006 clockspring and radio controls because all the wiring is already available in the steering column. The 2004's require additional wiring to make the lights work.

Putting the lighted 2006 controls in my 2005 was actually a pretty easy mod to do.

*****! I had plans to do this in the future after I'd completed other projects, but I don't care to mess with wiring for something so trivial. I rarely use the radio anyways so it's really not worth the effort. Oh well...

there are resistors onthe 06 controls so I'm assuming that the controls get 12v. If they didn't change the pin location in the connector all you woudl have to do is add one or 2 wires not any bigger of a job than installing aftermarket gauges
