Default Ebay hotside turbo kits. yay or nay?

First off i know VERY little about forced induction but would eventually like to boost my Z. i was looking around on ebay at turbo stuff and came accross a bunch of hotside kits for around $500. i know everyone is going to say YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, but for the price it has to be worth it. you can get a full hotside kit for the price of some nice headers? how bad would this kit be if you supported it with name brand parts (wastegate, bov, turbo etc). i figure $500 for the hotside wouldnt be bad if your going to top it off with good parts. anyone have experience with these hotside kits? could you even build your own hotside for that little?? heres links to two different kits on ebay. lemme know what you guys think

Pretty sure the 2 you posted are only slightly different but i dont know anything about either! If you wanna play it safe just get the huron speed kit for the extra cash

idk for $300 more you get what seems to be a kit that is much lower to the ground and cramped, and your still using truck manifolds. the ebay one even comes with turbo headers. Im not saying i know what im talking about, im just saying what stands out to me when comparing the two

Look at my old build thread and you'll have a guide of what needs to be done for it. It wasn't a completely bad kit, just need to know what you're getting into.

From what I remember reading. Allot of people had problems getting manfold bolts to line up and other fitment issues and some kits have gone in nice!

If you're doing FI and you are going to try to do it on the "cheap" you're going to be disappointed.

Modular turbo or Huron would be my choice for sure. Like its been said, budget turbo kits usually end up being the most expensive and most hassle.

I am running one of these kits now. ran it with a 67/76 Garrett then I chopped the flange added a two 3" 90s into a T6 flange and put my S480 on it. Then fabbed the downpipe with two more 90s initially and incorporated the exiting 3" down pipe. Later I remade the down pipe with 4" with a cutout prior to necking it down to 3". Turned out pretty good for me got about 700 wrapped up in the now T6 PTK knock off. It had some fitment issues but nothing oblonging the bolt holes in the header cant fix. You will also have to relocate the passenger 02 bung. Wastegate placement is good too. My Tial sport 38mm holds the S480 down to 5psi with no problem. Was worried about the size of the gate at first but thought I would run it and see and glad I didn't waste 300 plus on a new gate.

Sounds like you had to put alot of time into it to get it to work like you wanted it and ended up putting a little more money in it. Buying a huron speed kit with the group purchase now is not that much more exspensive and is proven to be an easy install and has everything there for you. Not to mention the extra turbo deals he is giving out with it!

Initially when I ran it it required a drill to open up the header flange bolt holes=free, I bought a O2 bung from Napa about 3 bucks drilled a hole and welded it on. So to run a T4 it required 3 dollars and about 1 hour of fabrication.

Not against the huron speed kit at all the deal wasnt there a year ago when I put mine together. That group price and deals on the turbos, gates ect make it a good deal If you dont mind the loss of AC. Its also a proven design many times over so you cant go wrong with it.

My modded ebay PTK keeps AC both in its original configuration, and as it sits now with the larger frame T6, costs less and has been in the 6's in the 1/8 in my car. My time slip is posted in the fastest 1/8th section. So it works well.

Bottom line is there are many ways the OP can go he just needs to pick one and go with it.

I get that Huron and Modular make a great kit. However you are comparing apples to oranges when saying its only $300 more. The EBAY kit he is showing here keeps A\C. I would love to see one of our fantastic sponsors throw together a reasonably priced kit that keeps A\C but as of yet it has not happened until then do what you need to I say.
