Default A4 to m6 rear end swap help

I have a 2000 z28 a4 85000 miles got a good deal on it because rear axle bearings were bad the guy said he had been driving it like that for a year and a half had thought of upgrading to a better rear end till I saw the price but just came across a used rear end out of a 98 m6 car which if I'm not mistaken will change my gears from 2.73 to 3.42 would this be a good swap they are both traction control cars so I think I'll be good on that my main concern is that I'm aware that there are two posi set ups which I think my current rear end would have the better of the two and the 98 does not thanks

not sure if im reading your post correctly but are you saying you have bad axle bearings and your solution is to change the rear? the only benefit from changing to the rear you found is the taller gear ratio. if thats all you want then replace the axle bearings ( really not hard at all) and upgrade your gears to a 3.73. much cheaper and easier.

I would personally disagree and say it's the other way around. The '98 will have an Auburn clutch-type posi, rather than the Torsen posi of the '99+ cars. Some people like the Torsen, but as the owner of both I really prefer the '98 diff; it's quieter (no chatter) and more "predictable", for lack of a better word, in certain conditions/manuvers.

As our f-bods get older and we get more abusive with them, the 99-02 torsen posi's are having more catastrophic failures. search the 'gears and axles' forum of this site.

Yes it does have bad axle bearings but not planning on switching to fix that problem would probably change bearings in new axle since its out was just Gunnar do it for the gears especially if it has a better posi unit as well
