Best exhaust manifolds for 77-96 B-body?
I have a '04 truck engine with stock manifolds. As I understand, the truck manifolds won't fit between the B-body frame rails. What exhaust manifolds are the best choice for a 77-96 B-body? I'm not really into paying $600 for headers if I can avoid it..
I don't have the equipment nor the skills to weld cast iron, so I need something that will bolt in.
For engine mounts, I'm thinking about running stock SBC clamshell mounts with some LSx adapter plates..

Agreed. I've done LS swaps on 2 different 79 Caprices. For one swap I used the 98-99 factory stainless f-body exhaust manifolds. Fit perfectly. You can find them used for $100/ pair or less. You'll want to plug the O2 bung in the driver manifold as it points the sensor into the frame. Just have your exhaust guy weld a bung into the headpipe. I actually cut off the EGR tubes and flanges and had them welded shut to clean up the look.
I also have full length Pacesetter F-body headers in my current '79 and they work very well at under $300. Depending on the mounts you use, you may have to slightly tweak one of the tubes on the passenger side to clear the lower a-arm mount. Other than that they fit like they were made for the b-body!
