I have the stock 3.42's on my 2000 ss. I'm thinking about 3.73's. I believe that my rear end is stock (GU6). Do I need to do anything but change the gears?

If your going to add any seriouse power to that car, might as well just save for a rearend (12 bolt or 9") and just get the gear you want with that.

Otherwise i would say the 4.10. The 3.73 isn't that differant and going to the track with it, you won't notice a differance in times. Pointless maybe??? I was going to go with a 3.73 myself but then decided on a 4.10. I don't have either yet however (waiting for some $$$ for a new 9").

Thats just my opinion though.

I agree with 95_Firehawk....it's a waste to add gears to ur 10 bolt.....unless you have 273's then buying some used 342's wouldn't be bad...but going from 342's to 373's u wont feel anything different and if you go 410's you'll end up stripping the ring gear teeth off the gear cause they are so thin and brittle....

I Thought it might be a little quicker, but I'm what I'm hearing is that it might be a waste of money. Any thoughts on how to get a little quicker?

I just asked Firehawk on how to get a little quicker. Have you got any ideas?

Save for a 9in and get the better gear then. Thats what i did, it will save you at LEAST 500 in the long run.

Got headers? That will up your low end torque quite a bit. that will make you "a little quicker". I'm assuming the flowmaster is only a catback (y pipe?). If no y pipe, get one of those when you put headers on.

Yea I got the Y pipe. What kind of headers would be good? How hard are they to get on?

If you think you have trouble hooking up now, wait until you run 4.10. Mine are great when I run ET Streets but on street tires its a smoke fest. It actually got slower because I can't give it full throttle until I am well into second. I wish I would have gone with 3.73's in my 12 bolt. As for your stock rear, 4.10 are weaker and will blow up much faster than your 3.42.

I would save up for a new rearend too, although.. I have 3.73's in my M6 (got them really cheap) and I really like them.. my car is more consistant now and I average .2 faster in worse conditions with the only change being the gears (before the longtubes, ORY etc..).
