Always hard to get definitive answers about starters.

Since it's an 01 6.0 I'll assume it's an iron block.
Just order the starter for the motor. The truck starters are smaller and have 2 thick bolt mounts (less likely to brake).

Starter is the same for all LS engines. If you look up the application for a starter for a 2001 corvette at Rock-auto.com, Look for the one with a heart next to it. The application will show a butt load of applications. LS1/LS2/LQ4/LQ9 etc..Its the 2 long bolt starter. Its not what came stock on the LS1 (visually), but works.

The 2010 LS3 Camaro starter is a nice inexpensive alternative for a real Delco, 2-long bolt starter.

no they arent, and i learned this after being told they were the same.

gto starter and fbody are different than each other and will not interchange.

I was told that the gto bell housing notch was too small for the fbody starter but the gto starter would work with the fbody bell.
Is there a starter stickie somewhere?

I did....What I meant was the engine itself. I had no idea the GTO had a special starter.

IIRC it's a Mitsubishi starter and smaller than the others.

Ok...I will mix this up a bit....My block is a iron block 6.0, it has a LS7 flywheel, and I just bought a T56 out of a 2006 GTO. Sooooo with all the discussion here......what starter do I need? lol

You'll need a GTO flywheel/clutch, then use the GTO starter (pretty sure it will fit).
Or you might be able to use an f body bell on the GTO trans with the LS7 flywheel, and truck starter. You might want to confirm this combo in the manual trans section.

Locally I couldn't find one under $200 ( with core charge)....Found one at Summit for $129 TMD.
It said for a 2004 Silverado which is the motor I have.

Brand new from J.C Whitney or Rock-auto.com...$92

Look up 2001 Corvette, its the one with the heart next to it. No Core charge. Just make sure you buy a set of bolts, it only comes with 1 and its not knurld
