Default Safe total timing 50-100 shot?

Just ordered my nitrous kit and and am going to start off with a 50 shot. I plan on sticking with a 100 shot once I get everything dialed in.

Engine is a 5.3L with a 218/222 113.5 cam Pat G cam, TFS 205cc heads, 10.8CR, LS6 intake, shorty headers, 3.00" exhaust and CAI. I was tuned last summer for N/A.

I ordered the NX proton kit with their Gen-X accessory kit, LNC-2000 timing controller, and NGK-3177 plugs gapped at .035"

My timing at WOT is 26* with 10.8:1 CR. Should I start off with dropping 4* with a 50 shot?

Opinions needed please I am searching right now!

rule of thumb is 2 degrees per 50 hp shot... but i wouldnt pull any timing imo on just a 30 that motor can handle it all day

yes I would pull it back to 4-6 degrees and hit it with the 100.

Lets put it like this......I'd rather pull too much and go slower than not pull enough and burn something up. The rule of thumb is just that...a suggestion. Pull the rule of thumb or more and check your plugs.

Just because your buddy has been spraying with no timing pulled that this guy should do the same. His combo is probably totally different than this guy and that calls for tuning it to that specific combo.

There are different ways to tune also. DavidGXP here can pull 6or even 8* and lean the **** out of it and run just as fast or faster. Making power by creeping up on the timing is not always a good thing. Many guys have burned stuff up like that.

I agree with king-lt1. Pull 6 and hit it with the 100 then check the plugs

my first post was all he needed to read, and he would of got all the info he needed. the rule of pulling timing 2 degrees per 50 shot has been around forever, and its already pretty conservative...

Pull more timing an lean it out. Lean is mean...

I pull 9 for a 150 shot. AFR is 12.0-12.2.

Yeah, lets see what happens. He might go faster. When there is not enough fuel on being lean nothing can melt. No fuel, no fire. You add fuel and try to dump more timing back in and its

Yes but if you would be around here taking in the info that is give by the big guys you would see they are not doing it like you are still doing it.

Yes it is, but using timing to make power usually can hurt something especially if you get a bad batch of gas or you nitrous solenoid gets a little piece of trash stuck in it.

^^^Exactly. Even with your AFR at 12-12.2 some big boys like running it leaner.

im not saying that you cant make power that way... but read the original post, his setup is right there. are you guys honestly gonna suggest this guy takes his car back to get it retuned to run on some shitty nitrous tune instead of sticking with his current n/a tune (so you can still daily it nicely), and use the timing controller box (he already has) to just pull some timing when he occasionally is gonna spray it?? i mean he is only talking about wanting to put a 50 on it and maybe a 100. if he was spraying 150+ then yeah you might wanna go get tuned on that but for now in my opinion he will be fine running his current setup using the timing controller to pull a few degrees.

Really guys pulling 6* for a 100 shot? I havnt pulled any timming on the 75 shot, and been running it that way for almost 2 years now. And the motor has 155k miles on it. I mean I might pull 2-4 at most. But see no need to go 6-8

You are right on the money. My tune is spot on for N/A. I do not want to re-tune for a 50-100 shot of nitrous. I ordered a wet kit, and will pull timing. Non projected plugs will be used for added safety. I am not trying to build a 9-10 sec Nitrous car. Just a reliable fun street car that can hit high 11's with a little spray.
I plan on using a 50 shot with 2 degrees pulled, and use my dashhawk to monitor spark knock. I do not have a A/F gauge, so I will have to pull plugs.
My plugs look light brown, with a tint of white right now

My main question for this thread; is if 26* of total timing, is to much for a 50 shot with 2* pulled (24*). I have seen some LS people talk about using 19* total!

I am just worried because I am not stock anymore, so maybe pulling more timing would be smart.
This car stock had 31* Crazy.....

What are your mods, and how much timing are you using?

if you have means of monitering knock than you are set, hell you could pull 3 degrees on the 50 and see what it does then go from there (im pretty sure you will end up being fine with the current tune on the 50 shot) as for reading plugs the proper way to do it is make a wot pass and shut it down immediately after, not sure if thats how you did it or not?

Intake, exh, diablo, and 75 shot. A bunch of other stuff but its un related. The tim.ming is around 25-27. Id spray the 50 on the tune you got now. Just keep a eye on knock.
