Where can i get a water pump drive coupler?
Pulled the front off the 97 to replace/upgrade everything and noticed the connecting piece that the water pump gear and motor side gear both go in to was real rusty and full of red powder.. I cleaned it out real good and it doesnt seem like its stripped, but if i can just get a new one real quick while everythings out id much rather have the peace of mind.
I cant find one anywhere, where can i buy one? I bought a new pump w/ housing that didnt come with one and i cant find one anywhere.. Whats it technically called too? Wp drive gear, connector, coupler, joint....?

I bought mine from a GM dealer that sells on the internet, but any dealer should be able to get it for you. GM p/n 10128334, cost me 35 bucks a year ago.
If you buy the Felpro timing cover gasket kit p/n TCS 45953 it comes with the water pump gaskets and includes 2 small o-rings that go on each of the spline drives that fit into the water pump drive coupling. Fill the coupling up with Moly based grease to lubricate the splines and the o-rings keep the lube in the coupling to prevent wear.
I got a few drive couplings from the junk yard but after removing all the stuff to get to them found that they were junk so your better off getting a new one.

Never seen one strip? My last water pump change I stripped out mine. I thought that was pretty common. I ordered my new coupler from GM no problem. I heard they were hard to find in the past. I also stripped the gear drive that goes behind the coupler in the timing chain cover but bought a new coupler and thats it, along with the new water pump.

I've stripped out two of them in the last dozen years, makes a god awful grinding noise when it happens too. Replace the timing chain cover seal of you'll have a wicked oil leak very soon from the heat.
