98 S10 5.3L/4L60 twin 67mm turbos build thread
Just want to share what I've been working on the past couple of weeks. Like a lot of you, this project will be slow. I work 60-70hrs a week between my 2 jobs and don't get much free time.
The truck is a 98 s10 rcsb, junk yard 5.3L with 140k. The trans is a 4L60 core, from a 4x4 silverado at work. Twin turbos mounted to the frame just under the seats. I will be picking up a 8.8 ford rearend from a salvage yard beforre it snows. Still undecided on some little details tho.
Right now, the truck is sitting in the garage next to my brother's 91 camaro and my dad's 66 corvair. Having 3 cars in a 2.5 car is not fun and makes it hard to work on something, so the camaro will hopefully be going in my aunt's garage soon. So far I've only been able to get the grille, bumper, and radiator support off. Tonight, I was fighting with the bolts that hold the inner fender to core supprt, the dumb clip broke and was just spinning freely with the bolt. Had to get to get the cut off wheel out and cut the head off.
I will try to get progress pics of the truck but might be a week before I get back to my parent's house. Please be patient guys and I will try to keep the thread interesting

Called Martin at Tick Performance today, had him spec a custom turbo cam. Should be seeing it no later than next week friday. The heads are at the machine shop, getting a valve job, and resurfacing. The Brian Tooley springs should be installed and will be done by this friday.

True, they're not the ideal trans for a lot of power. I was going to rebuild it with a Pro-Built rebuild kit and maybe harden shafts. I know the parts are a little pricey, but I would like to keep overdrive. I haven't checked on 4L80's but aren't they expensive too? Also, are 80's casings bigger or the same size?

Thanks, it should be a fun truck once it's done. I was going to go single but 2 smaller turbos will spool faster and should have higher hp potential than a single 76mm. What setup/size are you going with?

Im thinking about a gt35 or the on3 76mm with the .81 ar . Im not looking for huge numbers , i just really like turbos lol. if i get in the 400 to 450 range that will be more than enough ( for a while )

Just a little update guys. Went to the machine shop, after work today, to put money down on the heads. They are done. Maybe next week, I can put the rest down and bring them home. On another good note, about 10 minutes after I got home from the machine shop, mr. Fedex man showed up with my cam. Today was a pretty good day.

Thanks man, I'll definately keep you in mind. I haven't seen any TT S10's around Milwaukee either. I do know of 2 black 98+ TT TA's and a 3rd that's being built for next year. Lol. The goal with my s10 is to take down the 2 GTR's from One-Sixx tuning.

Yeah the two GTRs have pretty much destroyed the competition on tower all summer lol. A couple of the guys I know are also gunning for both GTRs next year. If your combo can produce consistent single digit 1/4 mile times and you can put the power down on the street, then you have a chance. I'll tell you this though, I won't be surprised if both of them go for the AMS top tier kit by next year. If they do, then both cars will be difficult to beat on street considering how well they hook.
All in all, I'm excited to see what setups most of the guys are bringing out next year. Personally my goal is to go after the high 10 to low 11 second street cars.

Clint did a valve job, resurfaced them, cleaned and reassembled them. I think they are 706's. Been a while since I've looked. Yours must be the other pair of lsx heads there that Mel was talking about, Lol. I will be posting pics. I was going to swap out the front bumper for a ss style. Got one?

Just a little update. Finally picked up the heads from the machine shop. I read about some of the 706 heads being crappy Castechs that tend to crack unfortunately I do have them. I'll run them til they crack. Wish I would've known about that before I dropped $400 at the machine shop. Monday, I'm ordering LS7 lifters at work. Next weekend, I can tighten the heads down with the ARP head studs and LS9 headgaskets.
I did get prices for a 4L80e. The cheapest I found them going for, was $650 shipped from Florida to Milwaukee. Think I might go 4L80 instead. Just wish I had an extra $650 laying around.
