Default took the junk yard 4.8 to the dyno today.

denmah and his crew had a dyno day today and since they are only a 2 hour drive away i decided to take the datsun and see once and for all what this little 4.8 makes. it impressed me that 294 cubic inches and a 74mm turbo on pump and meth made 700 whp. well actually 697 but if i was allowed to make one more pull it would have passed 700 cause i had only guessed where to set the boost controller and had i went another half PSI it would have cleared 700. we revved to 7k but since they was pulling rpm based on wheel speed and the converter slippage it looks like we only revved to 6500. this was on a mustang dyno .

It was nice to meet you, I was the fatass in the trunk of your car attempting to keep it from spinning. very impressive car for sure. really liked how hard the turbo hit for a little 4.8L. I spent a good amount of time leisurely strapping the front down checking out the car haha. It may be a bit of a drive but all the slop dyno days are a great time, if you make any changes or just want to come to another we usually have one in the spring time too.

one fast zo6, I believe he said he had a 200-4R when I asked him.

as stated ls6 cam and 2004r trans. heads are the 4.8 heads with some work done to them boost was 21.5, 22 would have cleared 700 we started out at 17 psi wastegate spring but since your only allowed two pulls had to kinda guess where to set the controller. zigroid was nice meeting you to. ill be sure to try and make it to the spring one to. this turbo is kinda small on the comp side at 74mm but also spins up fast and can carry power for a while. the dyno graph shows it wasnt falling much past 7k

denmah on a side note on the way home i got into it and my car also makes different boost on the street cause it went past 25psi and pinged real loud lol i lifted the second i heard it and checked the peak boost on the gauge. 25+ psi is to much for pump gas and meth !!!

Less load on the dyno. Glad to see these results. That is pretty crazy for the 4.8!

I am really curious to find a copy of this recent truckin magazine and see the article everyone is talking about with the 5.3 liter making 1300. It never fails to impress what these little motors can do. There was also a guy with a 346 that made 1060 at the wheels with a S480 over on yellow bullet with the same A2W intercooler I plan on using (1 step away from an ebay unit, lol). Pretty crazy stuff.
