I got the ls1 out from a lq9 with 243 head swap. I'm looking in to what's reasonable to use the old engine for. Seen a cheep 98 fire bird 3.8 5 speed needing a motor and just wonder if its worth the trouble.

Not without an expensive adapter bell. The 3.8 bell is the metric pattern, and the trans is different from the t5's in the older Camaros with the regular Chevy pattern. Not worth the trouble. Pony up to a t56 or find a decent 4l60e from an ls1 and run it.

Build a rat rod, that's what I'm doing with all my parts I have laying around the garage

Yea sell the 5 speed bc if you could adapt it it wouldn't last very long behind and ls1....get a 4l60e or a turbo 350 if trying to do it cheap. Turbo350 only needs a 20 dollar adapter to make it work. Good luck man

The BOP bell housing wont fit.
The trans/bell bolt pattern is ford.
The input shaft is an odd spline count.
The 1st gears are usually 3 something and are only rated for under 300 ft/lbs.
Not worth the effort.
