how do i know if my ws6 has an aftermarket differential gears
I bought a 98 ws6 and the owner said he had done alot of modification it has 550 horsepower but when im in da freeway in 6 gear goin 80 mph my rpms are at 1900 it seems kind of hig to me cuz my brother had a 1999 z28 and he would do 130mph and in 6 gear it would be about 1900 rpm y is that is it normal

what's your tire size? without that its just a shot in the dark, but I would assume you have stock 3.42's. my rpms at 80 are right around 2k. But with your tire size i can tell you for sure. And for your brother to go 130 at 1900rpm he had to have 2.73's and a taller tire

use this to get your tire specs: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Enter your data in here with .50:1 tranny gear and 3.42 rear. You can play around with this stuff to get desired speeds in whatever gear for drag racing and whatnot

put car in neutral , jack up carand put on stable stands ( carefully seeing your special and all lol....) mark a tire and slowly turn it counterclockwise like it would driving forward all the way around back to the mark ( 1 full revolution)
while your doing this count the revolutions of the u joint/yoke and however many times it turns will give you a pretty darn close idea of the gears , if its just shy of 3.5 times you likely have 342's if its just under 3 times 273's would be likely , if its just over 3 times 308 , 3 & 1/4 323's etc.... this works for posi rear ends
done it many times in the past and always got in the ballpark , counting ring & pinion teeth 1 by 1 and dividing ring by pinion will give you an exact answer but this works pretty well without dumping the fluid....
