Grinding noise while trying to start up

Default Grinding noise while trying to start up

I go to crank it and its a big GRINDDDDD!!!!! at first it turned the motor over but didnt turn on.... now its just grinding.... I have switched 3 starters already so its not the strarter... the flywheel looks good from what i can see... what can be causing it to grind? I just pulled the trans out and everything looks good.....


Any help is greatly appreciated

Have you tried spinning it over manually by hand?

its a M6..... I have not tried manually but it did spin freely before the attempt to start it....

Have you removed the pressure plate and disc to physically look at the flywheel? Center section could be broken.

just went outside and rotated engine 360 degrees .... i have not take it completely off but will do tomorrow.... i could not find my swivel to remove top bolts

If you have rubber mounts, you could a small piece of a 2x4 and shoove it between the engine and the body to move it over and give you more room to get to the bolts.

pulled bellhousing and clutch off.... Looks like the clutch was not installed correctly .... cause the trans was a B**** to seperate from the bellhousing..... and the "new Pilot Bearing" is trashed..... Im assuming my helper was not aware how to install a clutch.....But took the starter to Vato Zone and exchanged it for a new one... time for attempt 2

Problem fixxed!!!!! The little wire (I believe the ignition wire) was hanging on a couple of wires.. clipped off the little terminal deal, put a new one on and fired right up!!!!

It was that small purple wire.... I just fixed the connecter
