Default Route to go with 6.0 (Drag Racing Oriented)

Well some of you might have seen my 5.3 mustang build thread and a few questions on here.

Well its turned into a 6.0L build seeing I got the 6.0 for as cheap as I did. got a few questions the short block is an LQ4 with dished pistons I have a set of 243's and was wondering if I should keep those or sell them and go with a sell of the L92 heads?? And still going carb'd with it but now since its in a 6.0 instead of a 5.3 I can go more aggressive cam and it will perform and still going Vic Jr

So thats where I am at now with the build. Cam choice and Head choice are back on the table since the change in motor going into a Fox

Well seeing as we are in the same boat being in the Air Force I'm sure you know those would be a pretty big hit on the ole pocket lol. Was going to run both the 243 heads or L92 heads as is

243s in those case imo... The added compression will be nice.

If its strictly track, i might consider the l92s for the flow.

Yeah car is going to be a designated track car but seeing as I already have the 243's having the extra compression plus not having to mill anything PLUS buy the L92's I might stick with them how much do you think it's hurting power wise with the 243's vs L92s

I think you could sell those 243s...I hear yea on the cash flow. I heavily depend on my Summit Racing Speed card and the zero interest for 6/12 months to make big purchases.

So have a vote for selling the 243's and going with L92s for this thing

Id go l92s probably... You won't have much more in the base price, 100$ maybe... Then a small amount for milling. So 200$ more bucks for a far superior head.

you can get ls3 heads from SDPC for $650 a set,but you will need to buy rocker for them.the ls3 head will benefit from a different cam then the 243 head.I say stay with the 243 heads ,better compression and less money out of your pocket.

Heres the thing with ls3 heads,

With the small 4.0 bore the intake valve is right up against the cylinder wall, which not only shrouds the valve but highly limits how much you can mill your heads, and PTV clearance running a cam.

If you dont have a 4.030+ bore you are much better off with cathedral heads. You can run more compression, larger cam, and better ptv clearance.

I would try and get some flat top pistons and use the 243 heads. The ms3 cam should work well in the 6.0. With the flat tops that should put you around 11.1 compression and with a little nitrous that mustang should fly.

Really depends on your budget and what ET/class you want to get into. Personally on a budget i would sell the 243's and use the L92's as a basis to procharge it. This is a drag racing setup - just what i would do personally.

6.0 LQ4 stock bottom end (ARP main studs, Head bolts, Rod bolts)
Carb'd Vic Jr
TR T-Rex cam
Patriot Gold extremes
Stock 243's
TH350 JW 3800 stall (Probably going to go a bigger now)
And when time comes 150 shot
3.73s
All hopefully in a sub 3000 pound fox

Car is going to be a strictly car I drive at the track with a tag on it just for fun when I want to mess around on the street. This combo sound like it will rip??

I would stay with the 243's.

If it's a carb'd motor I'd use something a lot different than any of the cams you have listed.
