Default 10 bolt help

I ran some buddy's on Saturday and I noticed like a humming noise on my rear end when I would let of the gas. So I stopped looked under the car see if I would see anything leaking or something cracked but nothing. After that I decide I better take the car home before I'm stranded so when I got home jacked up the car and took of the rear end cover to find my differential cracked. So my question is would it be easier if I just replaced it or get a whole new rear end

I'd buy a new/used center unit and have a competent mechanic swap it in.

From my experience when swapping center sections the gear mesh pattern/backlash doesn't change enough to worry about. Meaning it can really be a super easy swap. However, you would need to check it before and after and know how to make adjustments if it was needed.

Would you really recommend running those gears with the damage to the pinion? Seems like there's also a good potential for the crush sleeve to have been compressed.

I'd find a junkyard replacement or consider a full rebuild with new gears and a solid pinion spacer.

Under the circumstances, everything would need to be pulled out for full inspection and cleaning of the housing. So yes a new crush sleeve would be needed.
