Default New build..i guess

Picked up a 50k mile LT4 this weekend for 800 bucks. Put all new gaskets in it last night and cleaned it up.Motor looks to be in really good shape.

My H/C/I Motor is coming out for some work that will take a couple years. The stock motor is going in and i will be daily driving the car for now.

Plans for the other motor include callies crank and rods...and a few other things 1 of them which looks like a snail.

Ill post pictures tonight Happy Veterans Day!

you got raped, LT4 block is just another 4-bolt LT1 block and spun bearings make the crank worthless as well as the rods since the fractured cap LT4 rods are a bit less resizable than stock. The LT4 crank has undercut and rolled fillets and my understanding is that cutting it undersize to repair spun bearing damage would undo that small benefit, then again nobody breaks LT1 cranks so that seems to be a mythical benefit too the same as the stock 4-bolt.

The 4-bolt mains are not worth paying extra for because by the time you need 4-bolts you should be looking at aftermarket caps and the machining that goes with them. I am NOT even commenting on the straight vs. splayed argument, just saying 4-bolt aren't a big help with stock caps.

That said I would buy an LT4 longblock for $800 flip the stuff and make a profit.

If you believe splayed caps are necessary then that is a strike against the straight 4-bolt of the LT4 block.

Maybe I should sell one or two of the 2 bolt blocks I have laying around. I wouldn't charge near that! But then again two are empty blocks and one is a blown up short block.

I wasn't knocking anything. I think the guy got a decent deal and the stock 4 bolt should be plenty for most builds. I personally thing splayed should be left to a factory 2 bolt block, but that's me. G/L OP!

Thanks guys...The LT4 i picked up is just a stock motor so i can dd it while i'm building the other stock 4 bolt motor i have. I miss driving it all the time and this will be a good way to do it. It will take sometime to put the long block together since i will be sinking some pretty good money into this turbo build. Saturday will be when the motor swap party will be going on I'll have pics.

Quick Reply: New build..i guess
