Default Cleaning aluminum? (Engine parts)

Just wondering what you all are using to clean your aluminum engine parts. I've got a set of heads I'm wanting to clean up and I don't know what to use.

Brake cleaner. Worked great for cleaning up my heads. Don't use Simple Green on there, that stuff is too harsh on aluminum.

It is corrosive if you let it sit and eat away at it. Otherwise it is great if you wash it off properly.

The brake cleaner is corrosive? Or we're you talking about the simple green?

I used a combination of full strength degreaser and brake parts cleaner on my my Landrover cylinder heads, I actually forgot I had hosed them down with the degreaser and so it dwelled on there for a good thirty minutes, no etching. If your worried cut it 1:3.

86monte -Optimum metal polish if you feel like ordering some, its great stuff. But I was actually extremely surprised with how good the Meguires motorcycle metal polish was and I picked that up over the counter at Wal-mart.
