Default Stock Rockers with 144k miles and Comp Trunion Upgrade?

Would it make sense to install the Comp Trunion upgrade into a set of stock rockers that are at 144k miles?

Or would it be smart to buy a new set of rockers and install the trunion upgrades into them? Looks like I can get a set for $170 from gmpartsdirect shipped. Ugh.

I would just go ahead and do the upgrade on the existing ones. theres nothing to the rocker arm other than the solid steel and needle bearing.... if you replace the bearing then you practically have a new rocker minus the fact that the steel body is the same...

I agree 100%. The rockers you have now should be perfectly fine to do the trunnion upgrade on.

Rockers major wear point is the valve tip. I would buy the new rockers at 144K, but at least look at the tip for damage before putting money in them. My PU had 107,000 when I looked them over, 3 were visibly worn at the tip so I replaced the set.

The steel in the rocker body can also eventually fail because of fatigue, but if the 144k miles were on a stock cam I wouldn't worry if the tips are good. Now if the rockers had 50k of high rpm abuse I would prob replace them.

Hmm. Well it's all stock, but I'm the third owner. So I have no idea really what kind of abuse it's seen.

My concern was metal fatigue and valve tip wear.

I would just mod the ones you have now. I don't think you are anywhere near the fatigue limits of the rocker.

Replace them now if you don't plan on doing any upgrading later if you plan to can the car or go bigger heads later just do it then that's what I would do
