Default Copper coating ls9 head gaskets

Has anyone copper coated ls9's or just leave them plain

Do a search, people have done both with good results either way. I put mine in dry, no issues so far.

i copper coated every layer, drilled the pop rivets out, laid them on a box in the same order as they came apart, as i coated each layer on both sides i installed them on the engine.

What's the point of copper coating them? And where do you buy the coating? I just put mine in dry

I installed mine dry, havent got it running yet but im planning on boosting around 15 psi, they say wetter its better lol! But you can pick up that stuff from advance auto, I see a lot of tunners asking for it for turbo hondas and wrx's

installed mine dry as well and have seen upwards of 24psi here and there

Copper coating is for water leaks, it's not going to help a bit with combustion pressure. GM gaskets seal well on most block surfaces. Other gaskets tend to leak more if the deck surfaces are not REALLY smooth so coper spray will help here. You should always be shooting for a nice low RA number(surface finish) on anything high performance with MLS gaskets.

I had my block and heads machines smooth, so dry install here. 20psi, all good.

I see you had an s10 with 27psi what did you use on that engine???? Did it last?

I ended up copper coating mine and istalled last night alli have is a jy 4.8 the rings are gapped and a eBay turbo kit with a on3 76mm

I actually posted a thread just like this last year and I got a pretty firm NO from some of the bigger names in this section. Made since not to since the ls9 gaskets come factory with a thin coat of rubber around the holes. The felpros and the cometics I had used before were just metal on metal do I coated them. But with the ls9s I say no. However obviously others had and have had great success with it so I say you'll be fine either way...

The first time I did not copper coat and had no issues 24lbs. Second time copper coat and no issues so far 21lbs.
