School Project: Getting an 84 z28 to run 11.5's or better!
Our school club recently aquired a mostly stock 84 camaro z28 for cheap. Solid car with no rust. Doesnt look the best, but It ran good before we totally tore it down. The goal for the car is to run 11.5's or better on a budget. What route do you think we should take? I was thinking maybe a lq4 or lq9 (since they are cheaper than the ls1) with heads, cam, supporting mods, weight reduction and a stall might get us there. What rear end and tranny would you guys recommend? Anyone have any better suggestions as to how to reach this goal on a budget? Thanks!

lq4 with either ported 243's or l92/ls3 heads, th350 trans with a reverse manual valve body and good converter and an 8.5 10 bolt or 8.8 ford rearend
is this going to be a track only car that will be stripped of everything that isnt necessary or will it be a street/strip car that might still need some interior and accessories in it? are you willing to use nitrous?

An LQ4-9 with ported 243/799s, a 230s cam , bolt ons, and a LS6 intake ( unless your going carbed) with a th350 and a 4kish stall in a gutted 3rd gen should run 11.50s. It'll have the power to anyway. Hooking will be the next task.
