th400 or PG/3.23's or 3.42's/28" or 29" tire? high 8 second car at 3600lbs
ok took the car to the track the other night for some test hits before turning up the boost and i ended up hurting the new th400 trans. previous the car had a th350 and has been 9.25 at 153.3 on 19 psi with 3.42's and 29" tire. i had planned to build a better rear over the winter and now it seems im gonna be doing trans work as well. i have thought about going to a power glide for ease of only having to shift one gear. i have also thought about keeping the th400 but putting 3.23's in the rear and going back to 28's. i have a blank slate to work with over the winter im just looking for some ideas. i know once i turn it up to around 24psi or so i think the th400 is gonna be walking a fine line for traction with stock gear set inside. im def leaning towards 3.42, powerglide and 28's but worried about will i be ok with 3.42's in the rear with the glide. thanks guys for any input.

Doubt very seriously if a glide will hold up at that weight. You need the extra gear in 1st to get the car going. I still have the 2.41 1st gear in my TH400 and have been 1.172 60ft weighing in at 3450. I thought about a glide but we have gotten the 400 to work for us. Plus you will spend twice the amount to get a good glide vs a 400 to hold the same amount of power.
We use 3.70 gears with it as well. I would like to go to a 3.89 but we already have had some issues keeping the car from wheeling. More overall gear will make that worse.
I have a glide in my TA. It have 1.80 rossler bad boy with 4.10 gears. Probably needs 4.30s for the 1/8 mile.
Both of these cars are on 275s.

I'll be using a glide in mine after too many problems either spinning or about going on the bumper myself this year.

Im running a glide in mine with 3:50 gear and 28" tall tires. The car is 3430 with me in it.
Had a problem keeping the front end down last time out, the car went towards the wall so I had to back out and it came down hard and cracked the oil pan..
On 16.5 psi I went 8.92 @ 159
