Default And it begins. 1973 Oldsmobile Omega swapped.

Ok i thought i would start a build thread because i finally sold my engine that i have in the Omega. Ill start taking pics tomorrow of the removal of the olds engine. Ill be getting a 6.0 truck engine from swengines.com has anyone used these guys for their buy and if so how was the condition of the motor your purchased. I am completely stoked on this because i leave for Africa late January and will be gone for a few months and i will actually be able to start on this before i leave. Any tips from the X-body guys on here that have made their swaps go smoother would be awesome. What kind of fuel pump would i need to swap over to is one of the questions i have.

Ok question. I found a pretty decent lq9 on ebay but it has a gas pedal with a harness with it. I know im not going to keep the truck intake. my question is with getting this engine and changing the intake am i going to run into any problems with the engine ecu and harness by switching to an actual throttle cable.

You will need to have the PCM flashed for the change. If you get the pedal and TAC, I am sure someone here will buy it from you.

your pcm may or may not have the drivers required for throttle by cable. mine did not, so i stayed with the dbw. mine was an 03 6.0 out of a silverado. see if you can get some detail on the pcm like numbers off it and someone might be able to tell you for sure.

you can just ditch the truck intake and swap a car intake on it. probably need to either cut off the little coolant passage on the bottom of the throttle body or switch to f body waterpump/crankpulley/accessories. but otherwise, the throttlebody will bolt right up to an ls1 or ls6 intake and then you just have to run the wires instead of a throttle cable. i kinda like it with the dbw on my swap.

Ok so I ended up getting an lq4 with 124k on it. I can't wait for it to get to the house. It has the throttle by cable so I won't have to worry about the whole TAC issue. I'm thinking it will eventually end up with an ls3 top end and a cam. And that's all I'm going to do. I want a powerful daily driver if I wanted to use it that way. I'll be keeping my th350 setup for now and using the JW bell housing for the swap. I have that on the way as well as some headman headers and some dirty dingo motor mounts. I went with the slider ones. Seems like they would be easier being I'm with an olds X body vehicle. Now I'm going to have to figure out the mounting of sbc mounts to my factory frame mounts. I'll have a lot of pics along with this process. I'm glad I have a spare ls6 block sitting in the garage so it'll be a lot easier than stuffing the lq4 in and out for fitting.

Well i guess i should say links!

I still have to do some research on the fuel delivery setup i will go with. i think i will so to the local auto parts and figure out what fuel pump the truck took that the engine came out of and go from there. Id like to keep the tank i have and maybe put a fuel pump down inside it, but ive never done anything like that.

I got the engine today from a local wrecking yard. its out of an 02 Escalade the had 97000 miles on it its the HO lq9 and i ended up saving money on shipping. I started to tear down the engine today and got some things in the mail i was waiting on. I can see why guys go the carb route, this wiring is hectic and overwhelming lol not what i am used to at all.

I think i will start taking the wiring harness and intake off today. I would really like to get inside this engine and see how it looks. I had a quick look in through the oil fill port and it looks good from what i can see there as far as being a clean engine. Still have some more inspecting to do.

Screw it. I am going to mark everything on the wiring go slow and put it to the side. My car is set up for Carb as of right now so i will continue the swap with a carb set up and then slowly get everything i need for fuel injection over time. Not to mention the carb setup is oh so clean looking.
