Default Oil pressure drop after heads/cam

Heres the deal: I had stg 2.5 LS6 heads, torquer v3 cam with +4 advance, adjustable single roller timing chain, pushrods, and ls7 lifters put into my 01 SS (M6). The pistons had a bit of oil on them, and it was using some oil, so I had them put rings in it while it was there. I got it back and it felt like a whole new car (my first experience with a cammed v8). About a week later the LOW OIL light comes on upon cranking the car. Switched it off immediately and checked the oil to find it perfectly fine. It occurred to me the next day to check the pressure. Before the swap, 55 lbs @ idle and 60 lbs anywhere else. Now, cold start is 45 lbs, warm idle is 21 lbs, cruising low rpm is 25, 3000 rpm is about 35-40. Also, that low oil light stays on, and oil level stays right where it should be. Any thoughts/ideas would be great.

Looks like normal oil pressure to me...55lbs at idle warm seems a little high to me. Does it increase at WOT?

He said his problem is the oil level light. Probably a bad sending unit.

Probably the level sending unit. Are you using the same oil filter? Had a cheap AC filter on my car (not by choice) and switching to a mobile 1 truck filter raised the idle pressure by 10lbs.

If cold idle is 45 and warm is 21 I would want to look at the O-ring first. This is a tell tale sign of that thing being nicked or pinched in some way. This is a pretty common issue on these setups as we have seen GM techs mess up the install multiple times. You might also think of verifying this pressure with a mechanical gauge. I would also bet that oil level sensor is just messed up.

Thanks, you guys are the best. Mechanical gauge is going on first. Ill see what it comes to and report back with the final verdict.

Also- props to TSP, extremely pleased with the heads/cam. Drug 383 rwhp out of the ol' SS with it on a mustang dyno.
