Default Big problem (head install) i think

I just saw in another thread that the comp 977's are TOO MUCH FOR A STOCK LIFTER ........ I THINK i can buy a slightly used set from a friend.... but i heard that YOU HAVE TO HAVE adjustable roller rockers with comp R's.... i DEFINETLEY dont have the money for adj roller rockers.... can someone confirm if you HAVE TO HAVE adj RR's with the comp 977 double springs?, (or better yet, someone tell me i REALLY dont need comp R's with the 977's ... btw, these are A R E stg 2 heads (maybe nick will chime in )

You DO need the Comp R's with the 977's. You DON'T have to get adjustable rockers. BUT, if you don't you'll need to shim the stock rockers to get the proper lifter preload. The Comp R's require a lot less preload than the stock lifter does, and too much can hang the valves open. Setting up the rockers with shims would be a PITA, but it could be done cheaply that way.
