Default Barrel style water to air intercooler

I am wondering if anyone is running one, or has some pictures of one installed on an LS. I am thinking of going this rout for simplicity of packaging and space, but I'm not sure it will flow enough air. Does anyone know if the HP ratings are high enough on one of these style intercoolers?

Inpute!!!

It isnt difficult to make something flow air. Not much use if hot air comes out the other side though lol.

Ive yet to see anyone give glowing reports of these on any engine.

I think PWR used to make some pretty decent barrels, but it's been awhile so I may be thinking of someone else!

That's the ones I was referring to.

Either all the users chose the wrong size, or they are just very inefficient.

Obviously assuming if you have twice the amount of surface area for the water to travel over you get twice the amount of cooling. I could see it work with an Ice box, or good for a drag car or like wise. I'm just not too sure I want to put it on my street car that will get occasional track use. They look way cool, and package great, but the effectiveness is what I am conserned about. Still wondering if anyone has actually ran one before???

in most a2w intercoolers the core is right around the same size as these cores are. The only difference is way the air enters and exits the core.

Any more thoughts?

Also I would like to see and hear from people running a2w on street cars.

The Mazda6 Grand-Am car uses a A/W intercooler like that between the two turbo stages. Car makes 400hp, but being diesel is flowing the equivalents of 600hp of air.

I have one of those on the Hemi with a STS rear mount setup and my friend has one on his Silverado SS also with a STS.

Mine has no reservoir and the stock water pump whereas my friend ungraded the water pump to a Mezier(sp) and installed a reservoir where he can put ice in at the track. He also upgraded the heat exchanger.

I haven't driven it in like 3 years because it has been in the shop but when I did I was able to check how well the w/a ic worked. The piping is 2.5" but the ic has 3" inlet/outlet so it has reducers and I have an IAT sensor on one. I got on it(8psi) and the IAT's were 118 with the sensor on the outlet of the ic. I then put the reducing coupler and IAT sensor on the Inlet and ran again and it read 218 so it reduced the IAT's by about 100 degrees. Ambient was about 90 that day in SoCal.

What were you, or are you running for a trigger for the water pump? Do you have it on a toggle or is it on all the time when the car is running?

I want to try and set up a temperature trigger on mine

It's hooked to a switched 12V source so anytime the truck is running so is the pump. You can hook it to a Hobbs switch so it only comes on during boost at any psi you want.

Following up on this... anyone else install one of these? Perhaps one from frozen boost??

My setup is capable of 1300hp crank.

I tried running it on mine at first and was seeing the boost get choked off. I ended up switching to an Air to Air v mount setup.

i am thinking about using a frozen boost type26 thats rated for 1200hp.. I have no room in front of my 67 nova for an a/a and this will be the only way i can aftercool under the hood. I plan on putting the pump and water reservour in the trunk along with a 12x12x12 fan cooled heat exchanger to keep it all cool and be able to add ice for track days..
at this point i dont have any cooler but running one nozzle of straight meth so im hoping to see a noticeable improvement
