Default 1998 Camaro LSx Real Street Build Thread

Well I guess I'll introduce myself, my name is Rob I picked up the Camaro back in April. I purchased the car with intentions of running the LSx shootout Real Street class. A little background not long ago I completed the F1A build on my Trans am that many of you followed the build thread and actually made it into GM High Tech.

Now onto the Camaro. I got it from a guy out of Indianapolis and this is how it arrived to me! Not even a roller just a shell! Once I saw it I knew Nate (my buddy helping me with the venture of building yet another car again, Thank you Nate) and I had our work cut out for us.

Got it off the trailer and the car sat while I collected some parts to get the vehicle to a roller.

Well once I got my rear end from Eric @ Midwest Chassis, strange S60, all of my BMR front suspension showed up and we proceed to start sanding and cleaning the underneath of the car. We decided to widen the rear tunnel for clearance of the rear end. Don't have many pictures of underneath cause it was a mess but here is a after.

Got the rear suspension and front suspension in and got the car on the ground!
All red suspension is BMR. Torque arm is Midwest Chassis. Front shocks are QA1's double adjustable with 14" spring and hard mount that Eric @ Midwest helped me get.

Pictures continued: Its on the ground!!

Decided to cut the core support and front wheel well to the way we wanted them.

Got my steering wheel and steering colum from Eric @ Midwest Chassis, got those mounted along with the Kirkey seat.

Had the windshield pulled out and got it over to the fabricators along with the cage from Midwest Chassis. Bill my fab guy did a amazing job putting the cage in and go my steering linkage set up.

Looking great! What direction are you looking to go on the engine? Turbo or another procharger?

Once the cage was done we got it back to the shop and got started again. I picked up my battery box and then got my Pro style fuel cell and Ice box from the new sponsor BD racing! Got here insanely fast and quality is amazing! Nate got started welding up a aluminum tray for the battery box and ice box for the t-top well and also got the battery cut of switch mounted and installed.

That gets us up to date! Fuel cell is mount and will get pictures of that up soon. Should be ordering turbo, intercooler and hot side tubing to start the turbo kit fabrication. Thanks for looking.

Will be going turbo this time. Leaning towards either the Borg Warner S475 or S476. Depends what motor I decide on, not sure on that yet either. Either stock 5.3 truck motor or a forged 6.0L depends on the funds I can save lol

This will be sweet! Have you seen the Precision PT7685? Rated at like 1300HP, might be the ticket for this class.

Little update....saturday i took a bare 5.3 iron block I had sitting around and the crank out of my original motor out of my trans am up to a local engine builder to have them checked. If all goes well ill be ordering a set of h-beam roads and Weisco 5.3 pistons.

Starting back this week on the car after a break for the holidays should have more updates soon.

What gauge steel did you use for the tunnel area? I need to do something similar with mine tired of hearing it hit.
