Default 13:1 150 hit and pump gas

408 LSX

13:1 Compression

26* Timing

150 Hit

BR7EF's @ .028 gap

91 Octane Pump gas

I'm running the MSD 6010 and have the motor on 30* timing and pull 4* for the 150 hit. No wideband in the car, street tuned.

That plug looks to hot to me. Not the tuneup but the plug itself being too hot of a heat range.

You think I would benefit from going to an 8 or 9 NGK?

Yeah I do. And honestly I'm pretty amazed that you didn't nip a plug on pump gas with that much timing and compression honestly. I know every setup is different but I can only get roughly 17* in my H/C/I Formula on a dry 175 shot with a 11:1 static compressoin ratio and pump gas. Anymore and the timing mark moves down the strap.

My setup is Carbed and I am at 6000ft above sea level. So that helps.

1. are these brand new plugs?
2.were these pulled right after the pull?
3. how did you do the pull?
4.did you drive on these plugs before or after the pull
and you likely need to move to a num. 9 plug

lol i like your 3rd comment, but you cant pull any useful data from that plug. you need to put a fresh set in with as little idle time as possible do your burnout, make a full pull and shut the car down immediately otherwise like your plug above its just about useless.

6000ft explains alot but I still think a 8 or 9 plug should be used.

like 10secz said make a wot pass and shut it down immediately, you dont want it to idle at all it will change how the plug looks.

I'm 12.6:1... with a HUGE Cam(25x/27x @ .050)
on 93 octane pump gas
and a 350 shot

I use a #9 plug
and I run about 15* of timing(27 on motor)
Wideband see's around 12.8:1

no problems....

you probably need a colder plug...
you probably need to pull more timing.
30* is a lot on motor for an LS of any kind....
I would start around 26-28 on motor, dial out 4* for Nitrous to start, and see what the plug looks like
theres also no way to tell if your motor is knocking at all without seeing down into that plug...need to cut off the threads with a dremel and look for little metal sprinkles down on the lower section of the ceramic.

While my car likes 27 on the motor, many carbureted ls guys are having the best results with 30 degrees or more of timing. I don't have any explanaition, I just know that many do. If you browse through the carbed LS database, you will see what guys are running.

Also have to take into consideration that the MSD controlling the coils may result in a slightly different value in the interface to get the same result. In the end the timing in the box is just a number. Up/Down until the plug looks happy!

Altitude plays a huge role in this much timing advance also.... thin air doesn't burn as well!

I prefer when the car runs the fastest as the final judge of timing.
